Simple sustainable design minimises construction costs and energy consumption.
Prior to our commencement of the project, the client had previously undertaken a full design, documentation and tendering exercise only to discover that the home costs significantly exceeded their budget. By working closely with a builder and engaging in pricing estimates at the early stages of the project we were able to reduce additional expenses and provide a cost effective and low risk home that sat within the budget.
The design creates a rational floor plan whilst addressing the requirements on the Heritage Conservation area in a contemporary manner. Significant glazing to the east creates a fantastic connection to the garden whilst allowing the living areas to be bathed in winter morning sun. Cross ventilation is maximised throughout the house through the use of operable internal windows and carefully positioned external windows. Thermal mass is maximised to reducing heat fluctuations through the use of internal brick walls. The additional inclusion of a substantially solar panel system and battery storage ensure the homes energy consumption is minimised.
