Adaptive Re-use Breaths New Life Into Unutilsed Plant Room and Roof Space

With the cost of land increases and availability decreasing, this envelopment exploits under utlised plant rooms to provide magnificent amenity overlooking the city.

The development provides building occupants with a flexible meeting space; capable of casual meetings, training and collaboration outside of the main office environment. In addition, a large roof terrace provides additional space for casual interactions, as well as panoramic view of the Newcastle CBD, Christchurch Cathedral and an enviable glimpse of the Newcastle harbour.

The roof itself was designed as a floating plane providing weather protection and usable external space, with slender structure to ensuring views remain uninterrupted.

Prefinished materials were selected for practicality and longevity purposes, whereas building classification required non-combustible finishes. Working with the Contractor, extensive consideration was given to sourcing appropriate compliance materials that also provided warmth, depth and texture.
